New Hope Christian Church is seeking applicants for the position of Discipleship Minister. The Discipleship Minister (DM) is a full time, salaried, exempt staff member that works under the authority of the Executive Pastor. The DM is responsible for leading the Adults and Missions Functional Ministry Area which includes but is not limited to small groups, Sunday Morning Bible Study Groups/Classes, Men’s Ministry, Senior Adult Ministry and any other ministries that focus on the adults of the church including strengthening marriages. The DM oversees the work of the Associate Discipleship Minister. The DM oversees the church’s Celebrate Recovery Ministry. The DM is also the staff representative for our church’s Missions efforts.

- A commitment to the Mission, Vision, Strategy, and Core Values of the church.
- An understanding, acceptance, and commitment to serve according to the identified Core Competencies of the church staff. Signing a written agreement affirming the commitment to work according to the staff Core Competencies is expected.
- Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end.
- Ability to recruit, enlist, train, assign, evaluate, and appreciate volunteers including volunteer leaders.
- Ability to preach a Biblically based sermon.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple staff members and volunteers.
- Self-motivated, having a strong creative drive with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deal with pressures of multiple projects on multiple strict deadlines and last-minute direction changes.
- Relates well to all kinds of people, builds effective relationships, and communicates effectively both interpersonally and corporately.
- Experience discipling others or leading small groups.
- A Bible College or Seminary Degree is preferred.
- A good steward of time, and the resources of the church.
- Ability to pass a background check.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the Adults & Missions (A & M) Functional Ministry Area.
- Oversee the work of and mentor the Associate Discipleship Minister.
- Serve on the Staff Senior Leadership Team.
- Oversee the church’s small groups ministry.
- Oversee the church’s Sunday Morning Bible Study Groups.
- Shepherd all A & M Functional Ministry Area Leaders.
- Develop and oversee Leaders of Leaders (e.g. Coaches) in the A & M Functional Ministry Area.
- Oversee the church’s Celebrate Recovery Ministry.
- Be responsible for our church’s approach to ministering to and strengthening marriages.
- Regularly recruit, enlist, train, and appreciate new small group leaders and coaches.
- Develop and track appropriate metrics on discipleship ministry programs.
- Work with the Women’s Ministry Director in implementing our church’s small groups strategy with women.
- Oversee the church’s Senior Adults Ministry.
- Serve as the staff representative with our church’s Missions Efforts including but not limited to our scholarship program, missions and missionary support, serve day at the Memphis Union Mission, and any serve days at New Hope.
- Support our church planting efforts.
- Serve as the primary resident subject matter expert on responding to Benevolence Requests including training other staff members to appropriately respond to Benevolence Requests.
- Regularly communicate with the assigned elder.
- Maintain an awareness of current trends and best practices within ministries of comparable size.
- Participate in general pastoral duties (weddings, funerals, providing Biblical guidance) as needed.
- Be available and able to preach and teach the Bible in our Sunday Worship Service when scheduled.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and huddles.
- Participate in annual staff retreats.
- Other duties as assigned.
New Hope is located in Bartlett, Tennessee, a suburb of Memphis. Bartlett has a population of over 56,000 and the Memphis Metropolitan Area has a population of just over 1.3 million people.
Discipleship is a key component of our church's Strategy. Our current church attendance on Sunday mornings is around 900. We currently have over 25 adult small groups meeting during the week and over 15 Adult Bible Study Groups/Classes meeting on Sundays.
